Nicola and Sarah were fantastic. We had complications with our schedule due to a cancelled ferry, and they were really responsive and super helpful with advice and work arounds. This is a small, family run company and it shows in their work ethic. Sarah gave excellent advice and warnings about driving on the left side, and I’m convinced the education I got from her kept me out of those potholes on Skye. I had never rented a car before but Skye Car Hire made is incredible easy and had no hidden fees, everyone who worked there was super friendly and even gave us advice on how to best catch transit early in the morning when we were unsure, if it wasn’t for them we would have missed our replacement bus. They even let us have the car for a couple hours longer just to store our luggage on the final day. Will 100% rent from them again next time we go to Skye.

Incredibly wonderful experience with this very helpful small, caring team! From the moment we first booked throughout our whole experience, they provided clarity, instruction, flexibility, and insight. We arranged car pick up at the Armadale ferry terminal but the ferry was cancelled due to weather. Skye Car Hire not only emailed and called us to tell us about the ferry cancellation (they let us know before the ferry company did!), but they provided clear alternative directions to get to their Kyle office instead and also refunded us the small fee applied for different pick up/ drop off locations. Wow! Also, they spent time reviewing Skye driving techniques (important as a non-UK diver) and took time to look over the particular car and its features. I can’t provide enough praise for this company and will rent from them again in the future!

Very good experience. The pickup process was quick and we got a lot of tips for driving in the UK and on the island. The car was great. There are no hidden fees and terms of the rental were clear for me. There is insurance with a £1000 excess with car assistance. So consider waiver from some other insurance company, because roads on Skye are often narrow and have a lot of potholes.

The staff at Kyle Taxi / Skye Car Hire are amazing. We arrived at the office and they went over everything to make our stay on Isle of Skye enjoyable. The car, we named Mach 5, was adorable, clean and reliable. He got us where we needed to go. The biggest shout out is to Nicola. When we arrived she advised that Scotrail cancelled our return train to Inverness. Without her we would have never known. She offered to help us if we needed anything else. Well the next day I definitely needed help. I was unable to book the bus using my United States contact information due to a glitch. I called Nicola and she without hesitation offered to book the bus and charge my credit card. I don’t know what we would have done without her.

The rates were competitive, there was a good choice of vehicles reserving was easy and all of the instructions regarding key drop-off, roadside assistance, etc were well communicated. Our car was clean, ran well and had a few well-documented dings and scrapes that confirmed island driving on narrow roads has it’s hazards. We were able to easily pick-up at Kyle of Lochalsh, and drop off at the Armadale Ferry Port – an option not every car rental company was prepared to offer.

If you want a personal touch from a local company and don’t want to do too much driving, use Skye Car Hire. Due to my height (6’7″), I needed to know what car I would be driving. They were happy to reserve a Skoda Octavia for me and meet me at the ferry terminal at Armadale. We had taken the train to Mallaig from Glasgow and the ferry from Mallaig to Armadale. We then used the car to explore Skye, Harris, and Lewis, coming back to Ullapool and dropping the car off at Kyle of Lochalsh for the train back via Inverness.

Rent with confidence. Recent 3 day rental. They were very patient getting the deposit from the US taken care of. The car was fine and in very good condition for driving in Skye (recommend small car!) The return at Kyle was flawless and no attempt to blame some kind of mystery damage on us. This was a good rental experience and would recommend them. Train station is next to the office as is a decent restaurant (Hector’s), so very convenient.

These people give superb service. The car was driven to meet me off the ferry from Mallaig (extra cost but its a long distance), Kenny reassured me about their damage policy by video recording the outside of the vehicle and explaining where to fill up and return the car. I had picked up a couple of passengers on the ferry which was also fine with him. Then we were off. When I found I had an unexpected 2 more free days they extended the hire period no problem with just a quick phone call and they have even posted my sandals back to me, having left them on the back shelf, at a very reasonable cost. If I had more stars available they would have them all.
